Let's start with the basics! If you've ever had your family photographed with me, you might have heard me refer to something I like to call "The grandma shot". Why I call it that will be really evident once I explain what it is. It's something so simple, it's that shot of everyone, looking at the camera and (hopefully) smiling.
I know it's something that is going out of fashion more and more. I see the trend in the photography world, where more and more people and photographers alike, spruiking the joy of lifestyle photography, that goes one step further than candid and natural, into getting a glimpse of the everyday life of families and loved ones. Documentary style photography if you will.
I absolutely love this side of photography. When I take photos of my own family, they are the types of images that I take, my kids doing their thing, those little things that, as a mother, I want to remember, how the concentrated while drawing, their crazy trampoline hair, and the dirty messy times in the mud kitchen outside.
So it's safe to say I lean more towards creating moments in my family sessions for families to connect, laugh and capture a little bit of authenticity in my images.
Before I do that, and I do a few ones of everyone smiling looking at me, if I can.
And this little post will explain why...
I caught up with this beautiful family on Huon Hill about a week ago now, I just love this hill. Not only is it nice and close to me so easy for me with my own 3 little one's to escape the house! BUT, it has SO many different locations around the hill that are almost constantly changing and if anything it keeps me on my toes!
I had plans to enter into the lower paddock by the entry gates but when I pulled up I saw this gorgeous hill side has all this beautiful long grass with this trail and it just called my name!
As I photographed in this first little spot I spied a huge and absolutely gorgeous tree out of the corner of my eye and I made Katelyn and her family trek up the hill a bit to get some more gorgeous shots, you can see as you scroll through that we ended up at 3 different locations all within a short walk from each other and all absolutely stunning!
I just loved it. Enjoy scrolling through these beautiful family moments.

Photographing Newborn Babies is always something special, but being asked to photograph twins is literally double the excitement and honor. I don't know about you but I struggle to comprehend the amazing feat that is one woman growing a human. But one woman growing TWO humans?? That is just mind blowing to me!
Nathaniel Vincent & Finley Ian
Something even more super special about these two twin boys... They are not the first twins that this mumma has had!
This beautiful family have 5 absolutely gorgeous boys, made of two sets of twins and one singleton pregnancy, and before you ask, yes mum is super human! She has 5 boys ages 5 and under and she is still completely sane! I know!
Like I said, she is super human...
Thank-you to beautiful wangaratta mum Deidre for bringing her whole family up to Wodonga for me to photograph these precious little guys!
I met this beautiful family up on Huon Hill in Wodonga for a gorgeous summer sunset session. We didn't get much of a sunset but we did get plenty of love and laughter, which is just about all you can ask for with a family session.
I am now starting to book family sessions for SPRING. I KNOW! It's crazy, we have only just hit winter, but I can't tell you just how much everyone loves the spring sessions and unfortunately it's also baby season so I can only take on a limited amount of sessions! - Contact Me today to book your family in for some gorgeous images for your home <3
In mean time, enjoy scrolling through this beautiful family gallery <3
This year I have had heaps of clients coming up the hume freeway on the short drive from Wangaratta to see me and have their families beautiful memories captured, I met brooke a few years ago at another session I was doing in wangaratta and I was so happy she came back to me and was willing to drive to have her family photographed by me.
When we booked in and chatted about what Brooke wanted from the session she told me she wanted plenty of tree's for an autumn feel. I went hunting and found this beautiful little place a deserted road that had the perfect sunset popping out from behind the trees!
I asked brooke to write a few words for when I share her images here...
"Thank you for selecting the perfect spot based on our request of “trees” and seeing beauty in somewhere lots of people would just drive past. You made us feel comfortable in our breastfeeding group shoot and again 1 year later in our family shoot and now we have an amazing piece of art hanging in our lounge room. Thank you for capturing our moment in time."
Thank-you to Brooke and her family for traveling up to see me and have a beautiful afternoon of memories together <3
I was so excited when Ebony contacted me to book in her newborn images of this sweet girl! I had already captured Charlotte's slightly older cousin just a few months earlier! It is the biggest compliment when my clients refer their family on to me and I loved capturing sweet Charlotte's newborn session.
I won't lie, she totally made me WORK for every image, we spent a long time in the studio together but unfortunately she just wasn't a very happy little lady on the day of her session, but check out the beautiful images we go of this sweet miss!
Check her out! Wiiiiiiide awake she was at the end of her session :D
But some of the most ADORABLE facial expressions and eye contact I have ever seen and I was absolutely in love with her, as I am with all of my precious little clients.
But I do hope she sleeps a bit more for mum and dad by now ;) hehe
It's story time everyone!
I used to drive by this little place, not too far from my house all the time, and a little part of me wondered, what's it like inside? it looks like the perfect little place for a studio!
Well one day I got up the courage to ask about it, guess what? It was vacant, I got in to have a look at this place and here it what I saw...
It was old, the walls were bent and bowed and it needed A LOT of love and attention. BUT, I was totally sold on it. I didn't even have to do much to convince the husband that it was a fantastic idea. I've been running my studio from our house for over 5 years!! He was happy for me to move. it. out.
And before I knew it... It was mine! All mine!
And work began almost immediately!
The following images will show you what we (and when I say we I mean I mostly conned hubby into doing mostly everything ) did to this little place that I get to call my own...
And about a month later and
lots and lots of hours of work...
I am so happy to share with
you this amazing space!
